Handwoven sleeveless kimono by contemporary weaver Christopher Duncan
This sleeveless Kimono has a warp of black wiry linen, woven in
a crepe structure with a weft of charcoal New Zealand merino
wool. The crepe weave gives the textile a heavy yet soft
protective winter feel. There’s a band of black linen weft
surrounding the lower mid section of the body that’s crisp and
light with varying weave structures and additional weft wrapping
techniques and negative space. The hem and front opening are
both finished by hand with thick black linen yarn. Side seam
pockets are hand woven in New Zealand wool and linen
preserved from the cutting of another garment.
All pieces by Christopher Duncan are unique and have there own personal stories/signatures/figures layed in during the weaving process.
