Small Ceramic container by Kenta Anzai

by ceramics, porcelain, stoneware

Small container by Kenta Anzai in porcelain, covered with a black glaze of urushi lacquer - a more than 5000 year old Jomon technique, using a natural Japanese lacquer from tree sap. Simple shapes of his ceramics contrast their refined aged surfaces, obtained through a intense lengthy process of sandpapering and polishing.

The other items are sold in seperate listings.

Born in 1980, Kenta Anzai - a highly sought after ceramic artist in the Wabi Sabi aesthetic - studied at Kyoto College of Traditional Crafts. After his graduation he became an apprantice of Daniel Smith (UK) and Taizo Kuroda. The latter deriving from a lineage of Japanese Living National Treasures of Mashiko. In 2010 he returned to his roots in Fukushima Prefecture, where he now continues to create.
