Nigerian Handwoven Hand-indigo-dyed Scarf
by MONAD
Handwoven hand-indigo-dyed scarf by MONAD London.
This piece is made from 100% Nigerian cotton. Handwoven by Fulani tribesmen in the North of Nigeria, using a strip-weave horizontal loom which is hand built using locally sourced materials. This method of weaving has been virtually unchanged for over 600 years - imperfections and variations in its appearance are a feature of this fabric.
This fabric has been hand-dyed at the Kofar Mata dye pits in Kano, northern Nigeria. Local artisans have been dyeing indigo by hand for centuries, using a technique passed down through generations. All the ingredients are local to the region and 100% natural.
The dye on this garment will run and is sugegsted to wash only by hand.
